Vice Chancellor Charged Graduates To Raise The Bar Of Excellence

Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana (UG), has charged the 2017/2018 batch of graduates from the College of Education to raise the bar of excellence in their work.

He urged the graduates to be committed in whatever endeavour they would be pursuing, wherever they found themselves and to bring out the principles of integrity, transparency, hard work and good stewardship learnt while studying in the University.

Prof Oduro Owusu was speaking at the congregation at the weekend and urged them to put into practice, all that they learnt and thereby become good ambassadors of UG.

A total of 1,409 students graduated, which included 208 diplomats, 1,147 undergraduates and 54 graduate students. Eight per cent of the diplomats graduated with distinctions, while two per cent of the undergraduates obtained first class honours, 39 per cent obtained second class upper division with 44 per cent obtaining second class lower and 15 per cent obtained third class.

Madam Yolanda Cuba, the Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone, urged the graduates to purpose in their hearts to be extraordinary in dealing with issues, adding that due to the availability of thriving technology, there was the need to push into the realms of the extraordinary.

Madam Cuba urged the graduates to seize the moment to become better assets to the country as various alumnus like President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, Joyce Aryee, Prince Kofi Amoabeng among others have strived to support the development of the country.

She asked the graduates to be deliberate about life, saying 'go for what you have always desired and dreamt about; but diligent and sincere because victory lies ahead and it has a pleasant taste.'

Mr Gideaon Awenabisa Atanuriba, the Valedictorian, urged his colleagues to assist in building the nation because the advancement of the nation rested in their ability to apply what they had learnt to affect the world.

Special academic award was presented to Samuel Obeng-Gyan as the Best Graduating Student in Bachelor of Science Administration in the Distance Education (DE) Programme, Benjamin Asare Brako was presented with the Best Graduating Bachelor of Arts Student in the DE Programme.

The Professor Cephas Narh Omenyo Prize's for the Best Graduating DE student was awarded to Gideon A. Atanuriba, who took his course at the UG Tamale Learning Centre.
