Cleric Bemoans Level Of Environmental Pollution In Ghana

Chairperson of the Ga Presbytery, Rev Dr Victor Okoe Abbey, has cautioned the public to desist from engaging in activities that pollute the environment.

Rev Dr Abbey said pollution of the environment threatens the existence of mankind as humans are dependent on it for survival.

“God gave us nature to help us survive on earth but we are polluting the air and our natural resources with chemicals which mean we are gradually killing ourselves,” he stated.

“We know that the rubbish and filth will bring diseases but we dump it in gutters expecting the government to clean our environment but it is the responsibility of citizens to keep their environment clean,” Rev Dr Abbey added.

He pointed out that citizens do not have to wait for the president to call for an end to environmental pollution like illegal mining before people take issues of the environment seriously.

“As citizens and Christians, we owe it to ourselves to keep pour environment clean,” he said.

Rev Dr Abbey was speaking at the thanksgiving service of the Ga Presbytery during their annual general meeting to take stock of activities and plan for the coming year.

Hosted by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Adabraka District, Ascension Congregation, the event brought together delegates from all the Ga Presbytery to fellowship under one roof on the theme: 'Christ Open our Mind'.

Delivering the sermon, Rev Dr Abbey said it was important for Christians to pray for Christ to open their minds, adding that if the minds of the people of God are opened they will understand what they have been called into and will be able to preach the word of God.

He said the global theme for the Presbyterian Church for the year is 'Let The Earth Hear', coined from Romans 10 v 14 to 17.
