
A six-member audit committee to help strengthen the financial management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has been inaugurated at a ceremony.
It is chaired by Mr. Robert Donaldy, a Chartered Accountant, and has Miss Adwoa Amankwaa Ntim, Mr. Stephen D. Kwakye, Mr. Isaac M. Oduro, Dr. K. Osei-Afoakwa and Mr. Charles Dontoh, as the other members.
The committee is expected to meet at least, twice in a year, and on hand to perform the inauguration was, Mr. Nathan Yankey, Head of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA).
He said its assigned task was to safeguard the public purse by seeing to it that there was transparency, accountability and efficiency in the management of the hospital's finances.
He reminded the members of their responsibility to ensure that the recommendations contained in internal and external audit reports as well as monitoring units were implemented.
He added that this should include decisions of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament.
Mr. Yankey asked them to be diligent in the performance of their job and to go the extra mile to support the institution to sharpen the skills of its internal auditors for quality assurance.
Nana Effah-Appeneng, Board Chairman of the Hospital, underlined their resolve to make sure that there was prudent use of resources and pledged the Board's strong backing for the committee.
Mr. Donaldy gave the assurance that they would not disappoint and would live up to expectation.
He indicated that team work was going to be their watchword.
