Volta Regional Museum To See Facelift

Ho, Jan. 16, GNA - Mr Christoph Retzlaff, the German Ambassador to Ghana, has stated the resolve of the German government to rehabilitate the Volta Regional Museum.

The rehabilitation will involve re-roofing of the facility and expanding it to accommodate more exhibits.

The Ambassador said this when he visited the Museum with some German students to see shared heritage sites in the Volta Region.

He said the current structure housing the ancient artifacts of Germans in the region was unpleasant hence the need to facelift the facility to showcase the rich culture of the people and enhance the cultural relationship between Ghana and Germany.

Dr Wazi Apoh, Head of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, University of Ghana, said expanding the facility would create a permanent exhibition space for important archaeological findings and the archival materials that his research unearthed from German missionaries and colonial sites at places such as Kpando, Kete Krachi and Adaklu.

Mr Maxwell Quofi Blagodzi, the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, expressed gratitude to the German government for the support and appealed for more research be done in the Region to aid its development.

He used the visit to call for the return of items taken from the Region by the Germans during the colonial rule.

Mr Kwame Agbodza, the Member of Parliament for Adaklu, expressed appreciation to Dr Wazi and his team for the research on the relationship between the people of Adaklu and the Germans during the colonial rule.
