Mesidam,(B/A), July 5, GNA - Nana Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, the 2013 national best farmer for cocoa and cashew has appealed to government to establish a cashew buying and marketing Board for price stability of the commodity.
He said essentially, that would also guarantee a fair and stable price for cashew farmers just like the Ghana Cocoa Board had been doing for cocoa farmers over the years.
Nana Kyeremeh made the appeal in an interview with the GNA on Thursday at Mesidam in the Techiman North District of Brong-Ahafo Region.
He said the prices for cashew, both per kilogramme and bag had not been stable in recent years and expressed the fear that the situation could lead to the decline of the industry.
Nana Kyeremeh appealed to government through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to support cashew farmers with farm inputs like the free supply of fertilizers and other chemicals to cocoa farmers to boost cashew production in the country.
He advised the youth of the country to develop passion for agriculture because that sector had wide range of business opportunities for anyone to earn sustainable income for enhanced livelihood. GNA
