Today's Sermon: Who Is Your Enemy?

Today's Sermon: Who Is Your Enemy?
19.04.2017 LISTEN

We all have ill wishers when we set goals and targets in our lives. Sceptics and critics will always be there to taunt our aspirations. Every creature has an enemy.

David said "Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal."

(Psalm 69:4)
Before we continue, let us understand that, we have two types of enemies. We have Physical enemies and Spiritual enemies.

With the physical enemies who harbour negative thoughts about you, you should tolerate them and apply the Biblical rule which says pray for your enemies.

But when it comes to spiritual enemies, don't joke with them. These type of enemies don't need a tangible reason to hate and torment you.

These are wicked forces that can unmake you and destroy your destiny. If spiritual enemies were to be entertained and pampered, like Satan will be sitting at the right hand side of God by now.

When you identify your spiritual enemies, put on the full armour of Christ and pray against them with all seriousness.

The Bible says " For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds"

(2nd Corinthians 10:4)
Scripture provides numerous instructive examples of the negative effects of bad associations upon believers.

Some of these spiritual enemies could be your parents, friends, children, uncles, partners etc.

The Bible gives an account of an evil woman from the land of Sidon called Jezebel who introduced her husband Ahab to the worship of Baal Merkart and Asherah. Jezebel chased and killed prophets of God in Israel.

(1 Kings 18:4–14).
Job's wife Sitidos persuaded her husband to practise a pagan rite by consciously sinning against God through blasphemy.

Sampson's wife Delilah , a philistine from the Valley of Sorek also lured her husband into showing her the secrets of his great strength (Judges 16:1-31)

Also, we have evil parents like Rebecca who conspired with their favourite child Jacob to steal his twin brother, Esau’s birthright.( Genesis 27:6-29)

Some evil parents can cart off your virtues and squander them on themselves, leaving you with nothing but to struggle through life. They can take your intelligent brain and give it to their favorite child and give you a dull one. Some can sell your flamboyant marriage spiritually etc.

Furthermore, we have friends like Job's three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite, who heard about all the troubles that had come upon him and decided to lead him astray.

We have friends who are close or who exercise influence yet they are cunningly unreliable and deceptive .

Again, we have wicked grandparents like Athaliah, who killed her own grandchildren because she wanted political power.

(2 Chronicles 22:10)
Moreso, we have wicked siblings like Cain who killed his own brother Abel.

We have Rachel who treated her sister Leah cruelly. (Genesis 4:8; 30:14-16)

They are like Joseph’s brothers who their determination to destroy his colorful destiny first buried him and later sold him into slavery in a foreign land. They have the same plan for you that Joseph’s brothers had for him when they said, “Let us kill him and see what will become of his dreams.”(Genesis 37:28)

Again, we have Polygamous witchcraft agents that are mocking you like Peninnah did to Hannah the mother of the prophet Samuel.

(1Samuel1:6)
Moreover, there are children who are wicked to their parents after all the resources invested in them. They are like Absalom who tried to usurp his father David’s throne and brought him so much pain and shame.

He even went as far as sleeping with his father’s wives in public. (2 Samuel 16:22)

Such evil children are like Noah’s son Ham that exposed his nakedness rather than cover it.(Genesis 9:19-27)

These evil children are like Lot’s terrible daughters who got their father drunk and slept with him to accomplish their evil agenda.

Last but not least , we have wicked cousins challenging your authority and carting off precious things from your life in your dreams. They are the Korah, Dathan and Abiram who challenged Moses’ God given authority out of envy.( Numbers 16).

These evil forces pronounce curses on people and hire enchanters, witch-doctors, diviners and others to do same. Parental curses are quite rampant. Even siblings cannot be trusted.

They take away good things from you and replace them with worthless or inferior things. For example they can exchange good health for sickness; glory for shame; riches for poverty; male children for female children.

Today, May the earth open its mouth and swallow up every agent of evil in your life just like it did to Moses’ wicked cousins and may the fire of God in (Hebrews 12:29) consume them as we celebrate the resurrection of Christ in Jesus' name.
