The Ghana branch of the Universal Peace Foundation (UPF) in collaboration with the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF) and the Ghana Scouts and Guide Fellowship organized series of activities to celebrate this year’s Peace Road through some principal streets of Accra, ending at the National Stadium on Saturday July 30.

The event attracted the public to celebrate and sustain the peace that people have enjoyed in the country for many years.

Rev. Anthony Arthur, President of the Peace Road Committee, National Coordinator, UPF Ghana in his speech called for justice and peace as people from all kinds of walk live together in harmony and tranquility.

H said the event in Ghana is well-timed during this period for two main reasons, first to serve as an occasion to celebrate and thank God for the peace we have enjoyed for many years now, and secondly, an opportunity to connect and prepare Ghana for the upcoming elections of December 2016.

The Minister of Youth & Sports of Ghana and Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo in the Capital of Ghana, Hon Nii Lante Vaderpuije was honoured as an Ambassador of Peace.

The citation and certificate was received by Mr. Tei Doku, Vice President of the Ghana Cycling Federation on behalf of the Minister.

Tesgha King, an author of WC Ghana who presented the citation urged the Sports Minister to continue his good work by supporting to youth, especially the unemployed graduates.

Tei Doku expressed his joy that cycling is the sport or discipline that the international body have decided to use to preach the message of peace. He reiterated that cycling can be used as a sport for competition, for exercise and keep fit as well as mode of transportation.

Albert Botchway, President of the International Scouts and Guides Fellowship Ghana also promised to contribute to the maintenance of peace by training more peace envoys.

The activities in Ghana this year included cultural display by cultural troope from Ekumfi in the Central Region, Scouts from Nsawam Air Force Cadet Corps, a peace Bike Tour by the Cycling Federation and messages of peace from various Peace Ambassadors and religious representatives in the nation.

The Peace Road is an annual celebration of peace activities that are fêted in a chain format from one nation to the other covering more than 120 nations in the world within a given time period. This year, the peace Road activities kicked-off from Seoul in South Korea in the month of April 2016. Each day until November, 2016, nations across the globe will commemorate, celebrate and anticipate peace on earth, reminding humanity that we are all “One global family under One God.”

The Peace Road is a project of UPF. Since its founding, the UPF has been supporting and supplementing the works of the UN. Among many other initiatives, the UPF has called on the construction of a network of roads from the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa that will link several nations and connect Santiago in Chile. The project hopes to intersect Japan and Korea through an undersea tunnel while hooking Russia and the United States of America via the Bering Strait passage. It is a laudable project that has its aim to connect all nations on earth by road. A significant objective of the Peace road is to create awareness on the necessity for a united Peaceful Korean Peninsula.
