The President's nominee for Agona West Municipal Assembly, Mr Samuel Oppong was on Thursday confirmed as MCE for the Municipality.
He obtained 31 out of the 43 votes cast by Assembly Members present.
The MCE had failed in the first round of voting in which h obtained 27 votes out the 28 needed for the confirmation according to the Electoral Commission.
Mr. Samuel Oppong was accordingly sworn in as the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive by His Lordship Justice Dei Ofei of the Agona Swedru High Court after swearing the various oaths of office.
Earlier, the Omanhene of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area Okatakyie Nyarku Eku X had encouraged the Assembly Members to consider giving the nod to the President's nominee.
The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Kweku Ricketts Hagan commended the Assembly members for confirming the MCE.
He noted that the confirmation affirms the confident the Assembly members had in H. E John Dramani Mahama who re-nominated Mr. Samuel Oppong as MCE for the position.
The Regional Minister tasked Mr. Samuel Oppong to ensure that unity prevail for total victory for President Mahama and the NDC in Agona West.
In his acceptance speech, the MCE thanked all those who made his confirmation possible adding that he was going to work assiduously for President Mahama to win massively in the constituency.
The elections were conducted by the Central Regional Directorate of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
Present were the former Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Mfantsiman Hon. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, MMDCEs and the NPP Parliamentary candidate for Agona West Mrs. Cynthia Morrison. The NDC Member of Parliament for Agona West, Hon. Charles Obeng Inkoom was however absent to observe the confirmation.
