Did The EC Lie To The Supreme Court?

The EC presented a cooked document as the list of persons who registered for biometric voter ID cards in 2012 with the NHIS card to the Supreme Court. I took the pain to scrutinize the list on 14th July, 2016.

I registered for NHIS in 2007 (the laminated card) and it expired in 2008. Since then, I have never held an NHIS card because I did not renew the health insurance. This old NHIS card had my maternal surname Amarteifio.

My voter ID card (old) before the new biometric one in 2012 bears my paternal surname with one initial, ATOAPEM F. BERIMAH, BARIMAH was wrongly spelt by the EC officers who did the registration at the time. I registered with my names correctly spelt and in full in 2012, ATOAPEM FRIMPONG BARIMAH, and that is what I have on my current biometric voter ID card.

The EC picked my name on the old non-biometric card and corrected the spelling of BERIMAH to BARIMAH, but maintained the initial F as it appeared on the old non-biometric voter ID card, picked the ID number on my new biometric card and gave me their own NHIS number whiles I have never held one since 2008.

I used my old voter ID card to register for the new one and asked them (EC officials) to amend the name with the correct spellings. I currently have the old laminated NHIS card, the old non-biometric voter ID card copy and the new biometric Voter ID card with me.

I even used the old non-biometric voter ID card to open an account at SG Ghana, Industrial Area Branch. Because of the wrong spelling of my name on the old non-biometric voter ID card, and the bank also capturing same for my account details, I sworn affidavit in 2015 to amend and confirm the correct spelling of my name. Gazetted on Wednesday 19th August, 2015. Publication No.79, Item No. 8060.

Now, let's share the trick the EC wants to play. The EC claims the exhibition of the biometric voter register and the re-registration of the supposed persons who registered using NHIS cards will take place within the same period.

It is only rational for people to check if their names are on the biometric register first before any attempt to check the supposed deleted list. If one checks and his or her name appears on the biometric register, it ends there. Trust me, more than 99% of Ghanaians will have their names on the biometric voter register since the names presented by the EC to the Supreme Court were not from the current biometric voter register.

The EC, after 7th August, would tell Ghanaians that those whose names were deleted and presented themselves for re-registration have been re-registered. This is the main reason the re-registration would take place at their district offices and not the polling stations the names where deleted.

The names EC presented are from the non-biometric old voter register which is no more in use. Nothing from the new biometric register has been deleted.

I am challenging the EC to produce the source document from which it was recorded that I used NHIS to register for the biometric voter ID card in 2012.

The EC can't be trusted........

Atoapem Frimpong Barimah
