The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), has elected Mr. Mohammed Adams Sukparu as Ghana’s representative to the All -Africa Students Union (ASSU), the umbrella students’ body in Africa.
The election of Ghana’s representative means that, Mr. Adams Sukparu will battle for a continental slot at the AASU slated for August this year.
The constitution of NUGS mandates student unions and SRCs across the country to meet every four years to elect a representative for the continental students’ body-ASSU.
The NUGS emergency congress was held at the Akwamuman Senior High School (SHS) at Akosombo on Sunday, after the one scheduled for April 9, 2016 in Navrongo campus of the University of Development Studies (UDS) in the Upper East region, ended abruptly because of confusion due to alleged interference from the deputy Dean of the school and some political actors.
Certified results from the NUGS Electoral Commission, indicates that Mr. Adams Sukparu polled a total of 449 votes cast representing 77.81% whiles his contender Mr. Innocent Badasu managed 113 votes representing 19.58%. Rejected ballots were 15 whiles the voter turnout was 577.

The elections were peaceful as police officers detailed to maintain peace and order by the leadership of NUGS watched the students cast their votes peacefully without causing chaos.
Mr. Adams Sukparu after the declaration of results expressed his gratitude to delegates and the students of Ghana for endorsing him to lead the NUGS so as to battle for the Secretary General slot at the continental election. He was optimistic of winning the continental slot and urged Ghanaians to support him prayers.
