The dream of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South-East in the Ashanti Region, Gabriel Barima aka 'Tweaa,' to represent the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2016 parliamentary election has suffered a jolt.
The DCE, who became popular throughout the country following his 'tweaa' outburst, was beaten by Chris Boadi-Mensah in the NDC parliamentary primaries on Saturday.
Boadi Mensah, who is very popular in the constituency, polled 1,432 to place first ahead of the 'Tweaa' DCE who garnered 1,045, followed in the third place by Stephen Kwadwo Antwi – 487.
Elated-looking supporters of Mr. Boadi-Mensah carried him shoulder high, amid singing of victory songs immediately the Electoral Commission (EC) officials declared him the winner.
Addressing the media later, Mr. Boadi-Mensah described his triumph as a victory for the entire NDC faithful in the constituency, stressing that 'in this election there is no winner or loser.'
He stated that the party polls were a family affair therefore a winner did not really matter' and entreated his supporters not to tease the losers and their supporters.
Mr. Boadi-Mensah stressed the need for the NDC to unite as one political party in the constituency so that together they could campaign vigorously to snatch the parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2016.
