By GNA

Bepoase (Ash), Oct. 02, GNA - A GH¢175,000.00 water system has been inaugurated at Bepoase, a community in the Sekyere South District, to supply the people with uninterrupted safe drinking water.

It was funded by Safe Water Network, an NGO, with support from three international organizations - Conrad N. Hilton, Newman's Own and the Stone Family Foundations.

The project involved sinking of mechanized boreholes, erection of overhead tanks, laying of distribution pipelines and public standpipes.

Mr. Edward Kusi Ayarkwah, the District Chief Executive (DCE), hailed it as a significant intervention that would protect the population from water-borne diseases.

He reminded the people to take good care of the facility to make sure that it was properly maintained.

He also spoke of the need for them to keep the environment clean to prevent diseases.

Mr. Charles B. Nimako, Country Director of Safe Water Network, said the focus of his organization was to provide more rural communities with access to potable water.

He said it had so far brought safe water to 60 communities, spread across the nation.

In the Ashanti Region, a total of 19 towns had benefitted and they include Kekyewere, Tetrem, Boamang, Achinakrom and Yawkwei.
