ALL BUSINESS activities at Adugyama and the entire Ahafo Ano South East Constituency in the Ashanti region, virtually, came to a halt on Tuesday when Christopher Boadi-Mensah, a top contender for the NDC parliamentary seat, stormed the area with his supporters.
Popularly called ‘Chris’ in political circles, the NDC man, who is a qualified Insurance Practitioner with many years of experience, was carried shoulder-high by his ardent supporters, who were clad in NDC paraphernalia, singing victory songs and dancing.
Chris, who is a product of Prempeh College in Kumasi, was visiting the NDC Constituency office at Adugyama to submit his nomination forms, but unknown to him, the people of Adugyama and the nearby areas such as Mankranso, had planned something special for him.
The enthusiastic-looking people who had left their work places and farms, because of their strong love for Chris, met the NDC parliamentary aspirant at the outskirts of Adugyama where they carried and paraded him to all corners of the boisterous town, amid shouts of NDC.
Chris, who is a part-time lecturer in foundations risk management at the National Banking College, after submitting his forms, assured his party supporters that he would win the NDC primary in the constituency hands down and go ahead to snatch the parliamentary seat from the NPP in 2016.
According to him, he had been an NDC member since 1992, and he believe that he is now ripe to use his expertise, knowledge and resources to snatch the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency seat for the NDC so as to help President Mahama to win the 2016 presidential polls
He expressed sorrow over the high level of poverty in the constituency, promising to implement effective mechanisms to help better the lives of the people, especially, the unemployed youth and the elderly, when elected as MP of the area on NDC ticket in 2016.
Chris stated that the NDCs claim of winning one million votes in the Ashanti region in 2016 is attainable, stressing that Ahafo Ano South East NDC, led by him, would play a leading role to ensure that President Mahama wins the 2016 polls and continue to lead Ghana into prosperity.
He therefore entreated his party faithful to stay united and eschew all forms of internal wrangling and backbiting, insisting that with a united front, the NDC would easily take the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency seat in 2016, saying “I am taking this seat for a our dear party, the NDC.”
Chris, who had personally used his resources to support some brilliant but needy students at the SHS level in the constituency to help them climb high the academic ladder, promised that education promotion, sanitation, job creation and the total development of the area would be his main agenda as MP.
Nurudeen Abass, a top member of the NDC in the Ashanti region, who was present at the programme, stated that the NDC needed a learned, respectful, hard working, development-oriented and a visionary person like Chris to win the Ahafo Ano South East seat, for the NDC in 2016.
According to him, Chris had over the years, offered his rich knowledge and resources to help uplift the image of the NDC in the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency and the Ashanti region in general, noting “no wonder Chris had been co-opted into the Ashanti Regional NDC executives.”
The NDC Constituency Secretary of the area, Ibrahim Yamba Nelson, who received the forms, stated that with respectable and well accomplished person like Chris contesting for the seat, he is confident that the NDC would surely win the Ahafo Ano South East seat in 2016.
