Kumasi, Aug. 29, GNA - Two suspected criminals who attempted to seize the ignition key of an unregistered Toyota Corolla car from its owner, a nurse, at the Suntreso Government Hospital have been arrested and are being detained by the police.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwaku Ampofo-Duku, Deputy Ashanti Regional Commander, gave their names as Ali Ibrahim and Nana Kwame Boadi.
He told a media briefing at the Regional police headquarters that the incident happened on Wednesday, August 26, at about 2030 hours.
The victim had just closed from work and was about to enter her car, when the pair emerged from nowhere and demanded that she handed over the car key to them.
She gathered courage and shouted for help and that attracted passersby to the scene.
ACP Ampofo-Duku said they managed to overpower and arrest the suspects, and that, a body search uncovered two knives and a nylon rope.
The two would be arraigned as soon as the police were done with their investigations, he added.
The Deputy Regional Commander called on, especially taxi drivers, to be security alert, to prevent being robbed of their vehicles.
He again asked the people to support the police with useful leads to apprehend and prosecute criminals, making life uncomfortable for the law-abiding.
