Politics In Ghana, A Dirty Game Really?

Politics In Ghana, A Dirty Game Really?
25.07.2015 LISTEN

Partisan democracy came with partisan politics. Politics to me is an instrument for national development. In a nation where we have varied political ideologies, we should be able to formulate better policies for national development. Is that the case in our 21st political environment?

Many of the political parties employ all kinds of unscrupulous strategies just to win power. I consider opposition as a rehearsal period for effective governance. Opposition parties should be able to profess better alternatives to any contemporary challenges facing the nation. In our case, opposition is about blame game, unconstructive criticisms, fabrications, blackmail and sometimes terrorism among others just to throw dust into the eyes of the citizens to capture political power.

When such parties are given the mandate, they end up performing far below the belt because they did not study the developmental challenges of the nation relative to their ideology.

Don’t be astonished that some members of a political party have little or no ideas about their own political believe. Elsewhere, politics is a competition of ideas. Ironically in Africa and Ghana in particular, politics is associated with lies and insults. Is this not a shame to the continent?

We need to look at our nature of politics again or we are likely to throw this nation into chaos. You have media houses and civil societies biding for their political paymasters. The civil servants now become ticks on the body of the innocent cow (Ghana), siphoning it wickedly like desert vampires. Everything is about NDC and NPP.

Painfully, best efforts are considered absurd. Freedom of speech abused and interpreted to mean freedom of insults. Factionalism and personality attack between parties and even among members of the same political party with one political aim. No wonder with our abundant resources, we continue to wallow in abject poverty.

Productivity continuously falls whiles the labour force demand higher wages and salary with not an iota of sacrifice and hard work. A dichotomized and polarized society created to the benefit of political parties. Tribalism is our number one enemy. Let’s refresh our minds and start all over. Let’s repent to start doing things differently. It has even graduated to murder. People are inhumanely sacrificed like fowls just for selfish political ambitions. We practice loot and share and turn to blame only our leaders.

Attitudinal change must be advocated for, in a common platform. We got to elevate our political discourse by shifting from propaganda to alternative finding discourse whiles remaining critical on those who have the mandate to lead. We are taking some steps backwards in our democratic dispensation and must immediately stop there to begin a forward match.

Our grandfathers who toiled in the building process of this nation are not happy in their graves. We must appreciate their contributions by looking far above ourselves into the next generations yet to come.

Stop the deception and contribute your part to nation building.

Yes I have repented, you must repent and we must walk together through that rough and narrow path because it is where our success and our destiny as a nation lie.
