
Takoradi, July 16, GNA - The Western Regional Police Command, has arrested 18 suspected criminals and 11 women suspected to be engaging in prostitution in a swoop in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
The suspects were arrested on Tuesday, July 14, between 2130 and 2330 hours around 'Aponkye Nkakra' avenue and Shippers Roundabout.
Briefing the media in Sekondi, on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Isaac Alex Quainoo, Regional Police Commander, said his outfit has received several complaints from the public about criminal activities being perpetrated at the places the swoop took place.
The criminal activities to include snatching of mobile phones, bags and other personal valuables at night by the suspected criminals in those areas.
DCOP Quainoo added that persons suspected to be commercial sex workers have been harassing people around Shippers Roundabout at night therefore the exercise was intended to curtail such illegal activities in the metropolis to ensure sanity in society.
The Police Commander indicated that his outfit would screen those arrested and those found culpable would be put before court for prosecution.
He urged the public to provide the police with relevant information that would assist in arresting such criminals, in order to maintain law and order in the country.
