Professor Mrs Olivia Kwapong, Head of the Department of Continuing Education of the University of Ghana, Legon, has called on teachers to desist from negative tendencies that may bring the profession into disrepute.

Aburi (E/R), July 6, GNA - Professor Mrs Olivia Kwapong, Head of the Department of Continuing Education of the University of Ghana, Legon, has called on teachers to desist from negative tendencies that may bring the profession into disrepute.

She said acts such as absenteeism, alcoholism and indiscipline are some of the factors that contribute to the fallen standard of education in the country.

Prof Kwapong made the call at the Eighth Congregation of the Presbyterian Women's College of Education at Aburi in the Eastern Region.

'As you are going out, you are going to begin a new lifestyle altogether,' she said, adding that 'The society will be expecting you to be role models for them and this is where you have to exhibit the knowledge acquired'.

Prof Mrs Kwapong urged them to take advantage of numerous courses and seminars that are being offered, to upgrade their skills.

She commended the college for turning out many female graduates some of them occupying key positions.

Dr Mrs Harriet Naki Amui, Principal of the college said the academic entity would continue to strive for excellence at all times.

The Reverend Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, Chairman of the Governing Council of the College, urged the graduating students to help fight corruption, which is on the ascendancy.
