HOW LABOUR PARTY RECEIVED N1.5B TO SUSPEND RIVERS GUBER CANDIDATE- CHIEFTAIN

The last is yet to be heard about the brewing crisis in the Rivers State chapter of the Labour Party, as inside sources within the Party accuse its state leadership of having received a whooping N1.5b from the Rivers state chapter of the All Progressives Congress.

Impeccable sources within the Party’s structure in the state revealed this to The Agenda on the grounds of anonymity.

According to them, the APC, angry with Tonye Princewill’s refusal to challenge the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Nyesom Wike, in the just concluded gubernatorial election in the Tribunal, doled out the whooping sum to lobby the LP to suspend their gubernatorial candidate.

One of the party’s top brass explains: “The Labour Party’s leadership in Rivers is compromised. They are acting a script prepared by the APC. They struck a deal of 1.5b with the APC and each stage comes with a fee. Details of the transaction include: Suspend Princewill; Participate in the proposed LGA elections; Endorse Dakuku Peterside in a re-run election and Participate in his government.”

He however revealed that an integrity coalition is preparing a petition to the Party’s National leadership and the country’s Anti-corruption Agencies to probe the activities of the Labour Party in the state, arguing that “LP in Rivers stinks”.

The Agenda investigations reveal that some Labour Party executive members in the state are already acquiring property in choice locations in Port Harcourt and Abuja.

It would be recalled that the Labour Party in Rivers State, last week, suspended its flag-bearer in the recently concluded Governorship election in the state, Tonye Princewill.

The party at a media briefing in Port Harcourt announced the suspension of Princewill in a communiqué of an enlarged meeting of the Labour Party leaders.

Chairman of LP in Rivers state, Felix Favour said Tonye Princewill was suspended for engaging in anti-party activities.

Favour noted that their guber candidate would have to present himself before a panel constituted to investigate the allegations against him; which in turn begs the question: why would you first suspend a senior party member over such a grave accusation before investigation(s)?

Meanwhile, National Vice Chairman, South-South of the Party, Bobo Atari in a statement on Sunday, dissociated the zone from the purported suspension of the Rivers gubernatorial candidate, arguing that it is a family matter that will be resolved internally.
