Ghana's Most Beautiful, registers women under NHIS

Bakpa (V/R), April 7, GNA - Ms Emefa Adeti, Winner of TV3 Ghana's Most Beautiful season six, 2012 has registered more than 250 women under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Bakpa, in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region.

The move would enable them benefit from free health care.

The exercise formed part of the reasons for establishing her foundation,'Emefa Help Ghana', which seeks to address issues of maternal mortality, and help reduce the menace, if not to bring its prevalence to zero.

She said the exercise is targeted at the rural communities in the country, but has started with the Region to ensure that women and children are registered under the scheme to enable them access free healthcare in their communities.

Ms Adeti said the exercise was aimed at resolving issues of maternal mortality, and to help reduce the challenge, by paying solid attention to children and mothers in the rural communities and to give hope to the hopeless.

She expressed satisfaction at the turn out level, saying 'I am surprised that the turnout is so massive despite the level of awareness created about the need to get registered on the scheme'.

She noted that the vulnerable in the society, especially women and children need to be empowered economically, and as such her foundation has earlier organised projects for some women to enroll them in fashion institutions.

Ms Adeti assured that the exercise would be organised in the 10 regions as and when the foundation had raised enough funds, but expressed the hope that it would cover the whole of the Volta Region by the end of the year.

She expressed appreciation to her sponsors, Joy Industries Limited and Ramani Distributions for the immense support in helping her to achieve her target, and urged other institutions, to assist government in the fight against maternal mortality.
