GCAA begins investigations into Starbow fire incident

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has initiated investigations into the  engine-failure of Starbow's Kumasi-bound flight over the weekend. 

According Daniel Acquah, Director of Safety at the Authority, the GCAA is co-ordinating with the airline and manufacturers of the aircraft to ascertain the cause of the incident.

Some of the passengers who were aboard claim they witnessed some fire on one of the plane's engines compelling the pilot to make a U-turn to Accra.

Mr Acquah said, “even sometimes when you are starting the engine on the ground you can have that kind of ball of fire”, emphasising the need for a thorough investigation.

Following a statement by Starbow which downplayed reports that the engine of one of its Kumasi-bound aircraft caught fire mid-air on Saturday, scores of passengers who were on board the August 9 flight have been calling the Newsroom of Joy FM, to share their harrowing experiences.

Starbow had in its statement, described Joy News report on the incident as false and erroneous.

But some of the passengers on the plane held their ground insisting one of the engines caught fire id-air.
