CRIME CONTROL at Atonsu, a community in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region has received a massive boost following the grand commissioning of a modern police station.

Built at a cost of GH¢50,000, the new police station has offices, cells and water closets as well as accommodation for the policemen who would operate at the station.

It was commissioned by DCOP Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander and the Atonsuhene, Nana Kwadwo Owusu.

The entire populace of Atonsu, including chiefs, graced the occasion to make the event historic and grand.

Nana Kwadwo Owusu said the opening of the police station would help stop the 'wee' smoking among the youth of the area.

He said 'wee' smoking and robbery had been the bane of the townsfolk for years, hoping the police station's opening would help boost the security of the people.

The Atonsuhene commended DCOP Kofi Boakye for his swift intervention in the opening of the police station.

Nana Kwadwo Owusu said Atonsu had been pushing for the opening of the police station to no avail, 'but DCOP Boakye ensured it within just one month.'

DCE for Sekyere Central, Hon. Ebenezer Akuoko-Frimpong said the police station was started by residents of Atonsu and the district assembly helped them to finish it.

He called on residents of the town to assist the police personnel who would be stationed at the area to combat crime and promote law and order.

The DCE also thanked DCOP Kofi Boakye, who he described as an action man, for the role he played in ensuring the opening of the police station at Atonsu.

DCOP Kofi Boakye on his part said the building of the police station showed that the people of Atonsu respected the work of the police, adding that the building of police stations was the shared responsibility of government and the public.

DCOP Boakye therefore commended the people of Atonsu for their bold initiative, urging other communities in the area to follow suit.

He entreated the public to feed the police with vital information that would lead to the arrest of hoodlums from their hiding places.
