Feminization Of Church Leadership

Feminization Of Church Leadership
09.04.2014 LISTEN

The motivation behind it is unclear. Others are saying it is being done to appease the gender commandos while others are saying it is because men are trying to make up for years of male chauvinism. Still others claim that it is being done because church leaders like to put weaker people in strategic places, and women are famed nodding acquaintances – they say 'yes' to almost everything the pastor says.

Most Pentecostal churches have women in almost all strategic positions especially those of secretary, treasurer and in some cases even administrators. While it is not wrong to have them in these positions because they are equally capable, but the conspicuous disappearance of men from the same positions has become menu on the table of suspicion.

Why should an entire church leadership be made up of women ONLY when we also have men docking the pews, and the pastor is also a man? How are leadership meetings conducted, and how is the pastor able to get a transgender opinion from people of one gender class. Then there is the question of how are they ferried back home after church leadership meetings which are mostly held in the evening. Finally, how does the pastor fend off the fury of a troop of waiting husbands in their homes? Some one may brush this aside and say that most of these ladies are single, then that tints the water even darker. Why should a man of God fortify himself with single ladies like Gadhafi?

The pew man is only saying that church leadership should be a spiced affair. While ladies are good in leadership positions, men should not be left out. They provide cover for the man of God in addition to keeping him on his toes with their inquisitive minds. Men don't simply say yes to things unless they are fully convinced, and it pays to have them handy in the church leadership.

The church leader's greatness is measured by the number of men in his congregation and more especially in its leadership. Don't forget that men are natural leaders, and leaders don't just follow every body, they are like a pack of cats. While we recommend the commendable job our sisters are doing in the church, we need not forget that most of them are under the authority of their husbands and excluding their husbands in church leadership matters may prove tricky in the end. I also know that ladies are not to blame for causing traffic jam in the church leadership high way. They are mere appointees and the appointing authority must shoulder all the blame for favouring them above their male counterparts.

Finally, what could be the reasons why church leaders are barricading themselves behind female church leaders? In the absence of satisfactory official reasons, I can only speculate. First, ladies are mostly honest; they are quick to open up and reveal things that would not be said by their male counterparts. Even Rasputin used the Tsarina of Russia to get to her husband, Tsar Nicholas. Secondly, they are faithful especially on matters of finance.

Thirdly, most are not bold enough to oppose their male leader(s). Fourth, most are gullible; they believe everything men of the cloth say without questioning even when they don't understand. The last two points seem to be the main reasons why most churches, especially Pentecostals have ladies cramming the leadership ladder. The pew is carefully watching.
