Provide Speed Rumps On Tarkwa To Agona-Ahanta Road: Let Us Save The Lives Of Ghanaians

Feature Article Provide Speed Rumps On Tarkwa To Agona-Ahanta Road: Let Us Save The Lives Of Ghanaians
NOV 13, 2013 LISTEN

The Agona-Ahanta to Tarkwa stretch of the main road connecting the Ahanta Kingdom to the Golden Kingdom of Ghana, Tarkwa is one of the busiest roads in the country.

Since the reconstruction of the road around 2001, more than 1000 lives have been lost on it as a result reckless road accidents.

The inhabitants of the various towns/ villages on the stretch of the road have expressed their anger in diverse ways , yet the so-called expert of Ghana Highways Authority only sit idle relying on the outmoded road safety education while Ghanaians continue to wallow in the agony of one accident after another.

The usual attitude of Ghanaian drivers who with their usual “black man black sense” continue to ignore road safety signs and are seemingly delighted in killing innocent people keep spilling the blood of innocent people on our road.

As a matter of urgency, I am pleading with the Ghana Highways Authority (eventhough am not an expert, but I still can see how accident continue unabated on this road for the past decade ) and am recommending that rumble strips or speed rumps should be constructed at each community on the road as well as areas that drivers normally over-speed.

A look at Takoradi to Agona-Ahanta, where these road rumps has been constructed has seen massive reduction in the number of accident on the road. Bokro curve was noted for its fatal scene and since these rumps were constructed about a decade ago, it has saved many lives.

There will be no need talking about expert when these expert are not seen to be practically implementing measures that will ensure that Ghanaians can travel safely without dying.

I am of the hope that my voice on this matter will make a change, and prevent that accident going to happen soon. It can be me or you, so whoever is responsible must make sure it is prevented.
