
Barclays Bank of Ghana has announced the appointment of Patience Akyianu as Managing Director for the bank with effect from 16th October, 2013.
Mrs. Patience Akyianu has been the acting Managing Director since April 2013.
An experienced banker, who started her banking and accounting career 20 years ago, Patience brings to Barclays Bank of Ghana her rich industry experience having served as Finance Director and a member of the Board of Barclays and as Chief Financial Officer of Standard Chartered Bank in South Africa.
Commenting on the appointment, Barclays Africa Regional Management Chief Executive, Kennedy Bungane said: 'The appointment of Patience reiterates the importance of Barclays Ghana to our One Africa Strategy and we are excited that the appointment is taking place a few months after we completed the combination of Absa and eight Barclays Africa operations to create a leading banking Group in Africa, which Barclays Ghana is part of.'
Charles Alexander Cofie, Chairman of Barclays Bank Ghana Limited commented: 'The board welcomes Patience to Barclays Bank of Ghana and looks forward to working with her in driving our strategy of becoming the 'Go-To' bank in the market.'
Commenting on her appointment, Mrs. Akyianu said: 'I am delighted to be leading Barclays Bank in Ghana as we strive to become the 'Go-To' bank for our chosen customer segments in this country. I have an amazing management team and very capable and committed colleagues and together, we will capture the market with our regional, global and local expertise, acquired over 96 years of doing business in Ghana. Mrs. Akyianu would report directly to Kennedy Bungane, Barclays Africa Regional Management Chief Executive.
