Accra, Sept. 3, GNA- Mr Kwesi Pratt Junior, Managing Editor of 'The Insight Newspaper', on Monday said one of the reasons for the establishment of the newspaper was to project the ideals of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first president.
He noted that Dr Nkrumah dedicated his life to the unity of the country and the West African sub-region and worked towards building a nation in which no citizen was denied opportunities offered by the state.
Mr Pratt who was speaking in Accra at the 20th anniversary of the newspaper noted that The Insight was established in 1993 with the aim of disseminating information for the voiceless and fight the cause of Pan Africanism.
He said Dr Nkrumah realised the importance of unity in order to achieve the country s development aspirations and worked towards it.
Mr Pratt said the late leader remained the foundation that had enabled the country to survive all these years.
He said the nation's founding fathers, through hard work and dedication, planted seeds of unity.
He said the newspaper had made progress as it is now published on daily basis.
Mr Pratt noted that the newspaper had established the Freedom Centre in Accra and Akropong where comrades meet to debate about Pan Africanism and the fight against imperialism.
He said the paper had also made great strides in criticising the privatisation of water, fight against corruption and the regaining of the Tema Shipyard all in its quest to promote democracy.
He said one of the challenges facing The Insight is lack of resources.
He said the paper is run by volunteers and thrives on advertising revenue.
Mr Pratt appealed to corporate bodies to sponsor the newspaper to become the medium to promote democracy and help in deepening the philosophy of Dr Nkrumah.
