Open Letter To Prestea Huni-Valley District Assembly: Stop The Hypocrisy

Last year, December 2012, on the heat of the political campaign, then it was announced that the president John Dramani Mahama will be visiting Prestea in the Prestea Huni Valley district of the Western Region.

In fact, all of us in Prestea were very grateful for the homecoming of our beloved JDM. We were happy because once again, it will give the NDC Presidential Candidate an opportunity to get a first hand information about the problems facing Prestea and its environs.

Some notable challenges we were expecting the NDC Candidate to address will be in the area of our underground mining, which was collapsed under ex-President Kuffour's administration. The underground mining was so dear to the hearts of all good meaning citizens of Pretea.

Another notable challenge was in the area motorable roads. The collapse of the mines went hand-in-hand with annihilation of the roads connecting Prestea to all major towns such as Tarkwa and Obuasi.

Over the past four years, ex-President Prof John Atta-Mills came to Bogoso to cut sod for the construction of Tarkwa to Ayenfuri roads and we were subsequently told it has been awarded as a contract. This was in 2010.

However, about three to four years down the laying, work on the road has been walking much slower than tortoise. In fact, we are not seeing any meaningful progress, all things being equal.

But the strange thing which has gotten the people of Prestea angry about the authorities in our district is a constant sign of hypocrissy on they are manifesting.

It is constantly becoming irritating that when ever there is information that the President of the repulblic is visiting Prestea, you will see that caterpillars and bull dozers and other equipment will work assiduosly to make the road motorable for the President to pass on. As I speak, they are on the road repairing it, since the President is expected to visit Prestea today.

What the people are asking now is that, does it mean all the people of Prestea are not important, and have to endure all the dust and man-holes on the roads only to be repaired when the President is coming?

The people are asking the DCE Mr. Wisdom Cudjoe, why he is painting a wrong picture of realities to the President. In any case, why will the authorities of the district want to paint a wrong picture to the President just to win his favour instead of telling the President the actual happening of the district?

The good people of Prestea are angry and are expecting the DCE to explain to Ghanaians why he is doing this!
