Ghana defender John Mensah got a massive boost on Wednesday when he returned to action in the French top-flight on Wednesday after three months on the sidelines.
The centre-back, who suffered a hamstring injury that ruled him out of action, got precious game time under his belt in Rennes' shocking 2-1 loss to Troyes on Wednesday night.
The former Black Stars captain came on in the second half to replace Nigerian Onyekachi Apam in the 60 th minute to partner compatriot John Boye in central defence.
It is the first time in a long while since Mensah got onto the pitch for Rennes in Ligue 1. His return however serves refreshing news as it marks the former Sunderland loanee's triumph over recent niggling injuries.
Mensah's return means will fight to get a first team place in the Rennes side that could also help them in their fight to qualify for the Europa League playoffs.
The defender's return is also a boost for the Black Stars as he will could return to the fold to help them qualify for the 2014 World Cup
The shocking home defeat however sees Rennes drop to 10 th in Ligue 1 - increasingly hurting their chances of securing European football next season with just five games remaining.
