Open Letter To Ghana’s Supreme: Don’t Intimidate Dr. Afari Gyan & EC

A lot of us who have contributed in diverse ways to make sure the country remain stable prior to Election 2012 and beyond are watching with curious eyes the aftermath of the elections and the petitions that have been laid forth by some key elements of the New Patriotic Party.

We know and believe that Elections are won at the polling station and that we are alert about the outcome of the case. All things being equal, I do not have doubt the elections was generally free and fair, despite minor hitches here and there.

The recent rejection of EC plea to crave the courts indulgence to allow them some ample time to study the evidence that has been handed to them by the petitioners so they can respond was rejected by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the petitioners were granted ample time when it came that they were finding difficulties as to the actual evidence the court demanded.

What has been so suspicious is the alleged attempt by the Supreme Court to create the impression that there was massive rigging or whatsoever during the elections. Why should the Supreme Court be so curiuos about of the Chairman of the EC.? In any case, has the Supreme court invited Dr Afari Gyan , to warrant the pressure.

I must admit that I was so happy when Dr Gyan respondedby asking if he thought the Supreme Court was a movie theatre where people should flock to watch cinema. His later interview with Oman FM's Fiifi Boafo by responding in an angry mood “… Look: this is crazy, this is stupid, this is unethical”

In as much as we want the truth to prevail, we do not want any attempt by any of the Justices to create those “pressure on the EC and its Chairman”. Thank you Ghana.
