The Deputy Minister of Finance is accusing the General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil of plotting the defeat of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Fifi Kwetey contended that the supposed setting the records straight press conference by the preacher man was intended to draw support from the NDC to favour the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The Deputy Finance Minister was reacting to claims by Pastor Otabil that some members of the NDC had doctored and manipulated his sermons for partisan gains.
At a press conference Monday, he described the act as defamatory, criminal, Machiavellian, unethical and called on President Mahama to intervene.
However, Fifi Kwetey said Pastor Otabil in setting the records straight on the supposed doctored audio tapes shot himself in the foot.
According to him, the press conference exposed him [Otabil] as just playing the victim to court public sympathy and to favour the NPP.
The Deputy Finance Minister stated that the time framework within which the comments by the Pastor was made is immaterial but its relevance to the political discourse is the most important issue.
He noted that the ICGC leader should have been bold enough to tell Ghanaians the words he claimed were misconstrued “because in setting the records you want to leave no stone unturned”.
“If Pastor Otabil has changed his views concerning any of the things he has said; he should simple set the records straight” he said.
He could not fathom why Pastor Otabil did not react when his name came up as people who will be killed should the NDC win power and is reacting to the NDC's harmless advert.
Fifi Kwetey said it is obvious that Pastor Otabil wants to create the impression that the NDC is out to defame and do something sinister against him.
