Savelugu communities appeals for more school infrastructure

Langa (N/R), Nov. 4, GNA – Some communities in the Savelugu District in the Northern Region have appealed to the government and development partners to assist them with educational infrastructure.

The Moglaa and Langa communities have expressed worry that educational facilities in their communities were few, sub-standard and therefore need rehabilitation. They said the few classrooms available were over-crowded and thus making teaching and learning difficult.

They also complained that most of the classrooms lacked adequate furniture compelling pupils to sit on the bare floor during lessons, stressing that the Langa community needed a Junior High School to absorb the increasing pupils from the lower level.

This came to light when the Regional Advisory and Information Systems (RAINS) interacted with the community members on Saturday as part of the implementation to improve educational governance and accountability project sponsored by Star-Ghana.

The three-year project aims at empowering the people, especially the School Management Committees and the Parent Teacher Associations to monitor and take charge of the responsibility in managing their schools.

Mr. Salifu Harruna, SMC Chairman of the Moglaa community, said the capacity building given to them by RAINS had enabled them challenged school authorities on developments in the school and share ideas of better ways in managing their schools.

He appealed to the government and the Savelugu District Assembly to expand infrastructure and provide computers to schools in the area to enhance pupil's knowledge in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Mr. Harruna noted that the qualitative development of their children was very paramount to them and the need to be provided with the necessary conducive environment for learning.
