STATEMENT OF CPP ASHANTI REG. CHAIRMAN - HIS RESIGNATION & 250 OTHERS DEFECTING

STATEMENT DELIVERED BY DR. T. B. KWOFIE, FORMER ASHANTI REGIONAL CHAIRMAN OF THE CPP, DURING HIS AND THAT OF THE ALMOST ENTIRE EXECUTIVE MEMBERS OF CPP OF THE ASHANTI REGION PUBLIC RESIGNING FROM THE CPP TO FOLLOW DR. PAPA KWASI NDUOM TO FORM DR. NDUOM'S NEW PROGRESSIVE PEOPLE'S PARTY (PPP)

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press,

We are happy to see that you could find time to accept our invitation to be with us here. We are very thankful for your coming. We have invited you here for two main reasons; first to witness the public resignation of almost the entire membership of the executive members of CPP of the Ashanti region from the CPP to follow Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom to form his new PROGRESSIVE PEOPLE'S PARTY (PPP). Then secondly to witness again the inauguration of the Ashanti region executive members of the yet to be formed PPP.

First the resignation
We do not intend to bore you with the painful and regrettable events that had taken place in the CPP in the last couple of weeks, particularly towards the end of last year. It would interest you to know that some of us were deep and actively involved to help prevent what has happened and is still happening, particularly today, from happening. But it appears some people with devilish, mischievous, cantankerous and diabolic intentions for the CPP decided this must by all means happen in order to satisfy their whims and caprices. Otherwise why would one so inordinately and shallow-minded wish a person such as Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom leaves the CPP. Dr Nduom, if some people don't know, has been and is the only member of the CPP top hierarchy that most of us in the regions and constituencies have known. For he has regularly visited us, organized us, funded our programmes and activities, motivated, encouraged and sustain our interest in the CPP. Indeed he has been a mentor, a role model, a leader and inspirer to most of us and therefore let the leadership of the CPP to understand that to most of us Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom is CPP and CPP is Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom. Let no one pretend to be naive about this. As a matter fact this is even so in the whole of Ghana for unless one wants to be daft, unintelligent and simple-minded, one would see that when one visits anywhere in Ghana and one says CPP or one displays any CPP paraphernalia the response one gets is “Edumawura” which is synonymous with Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom. And therefore to wish such a person out of a party is for one to cut his/her own nose to spite his/her face. It is indeed very sad to note that some people after Dr. Nduom announced his exist from the CPP were going about making sweeping and misguided statement that Dr. Nduom is just one person and individual and that his departure from the CPP will have no effect on the party. Those people should sit up, wise up and open their eyes and brains to see what is going on now.

In fact, many actions and inactions by the current leadership of the CPP make us doubt the integrity and their capability. For example when some of us were requesting for the leadership to open nominations for the presidential candidate and organize early congress for it we were told the CPP was not strong on the ground and that they want to organize the grassroots before the presidential candidate issue. But now they have open the nomination and even fixed a date for their congress therefore I challenged them to tell the whole of Ghana which polling station have they have organized? It is worth mentioning here that Dr. Nduom announced his departure just about two weeks ago and true to his organizational qualities his yet to be formed Progressive People's Party (PPP) have strong representation in every constituency and many pooling stations in the country. Who then is better organizer Dr. Nduom or them? Ghanaians should judge. Then again the CPP leadership and their cronies have said it over and again that there are many credible, noble and important personalities out there who want to join the CPP but for the presence of Dr. Nduom in CPP theses people don't want to come. Dr. Nduom has left the CPP since two weeks now, where are these so called many credible, noble and important personalities? Ladies and Gentlemen we sincerely believe that because of the very high moral standard of Dr. Nduom it is very difficult for some people to measure up to him hence the vilify him, malign him and kill him out of the CPP.

As a matter-of-fact, one of the many reasons we have decided to follow Dr. Nduom is his very high moral standards which serve as inspiration and motivation to many of us. As you can all testify Dr. Nduom has a very responsible, descent, courteous and respectable home and family worthy of emulation. I hereby challenge all those who are going about making injudicious and imprudent statements about Dr. Nduom to alongside their imprudent words tell the good people of Ghana their homes and families that is if they have one.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the press it these and many more other reasons that we the executive members of the CPP of the Ashanti region gathered here have decided to resign our positions and membership from the CPP to follow Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom to form the Progressive People's Party (PPP). We wish the remaining members of the CPP well.
