Agona Swedru, Nov. 27, GNA- Mr Charles Obeng-Inkoom, an Accra based Lawyer, was on Saturday elected National Democratic Congress' (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Agona West to contest the 2012 general elections.
He polled 242 votes to defeat Mr Samuel Oppong, National Coordinator of Computer School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) and Presiding Member of Agona West Municipal Assembly, who had 181 votes. 420 votes were cast.
Two delegates absented themselves.
The election was conducted by the Agona West Municipal Office of the electoral Commission and supervised by some Regional Executives.
Mr Obeng-Inkoom in his acceptance speech thanked the delegates for the honour done him and pledged to work hard and a called for the support of all members.
He called for unity and understanding among the rank and file of the Party to help move the NDC forward in the Agona West.
He said” it is time for the NDC to win the Parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which has been taken away since 2000”.
Mr Oppong who accepted defeat in good faith “cautioned that any attempt to harass his supporters would not be in the interest of NDC in the Agona West.
Mr Atta Yeboah, special Aid to Mr Obeng-Inkoom, asked supporters to rally behind the chosen one to ensure victory.
Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe, Central Regional Minister, earlier in an address, appealed to the supporters of the party to remain calm.
