Birim Central NCCE marks Fourth Republican Constitution with quiz

Akim Oda (E/R), July 11, GNA – As part of activities to mark Constitution Week, the Birim Central Zone of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a quiz competition for basic schools from five Districts at Akim Oda.

They are the Awisa Presbyterian School in the Birim South District, Advent Reform School in the Kwaebibrem District, A.E.A. academy in the Birim Central Municipality, Elim Academy in the Akyemmansa District and Golden Child School in the West Akim District.

The competition, organised by the Birim Central Municipal Directorate of the NCCE, sought to unearth the talents of basic school pupils through logical and critical thinking, with the view to developing the children's capabilities.

Speaking at the function at the Birim Central Municipal Assembly Hall, the Deputy Eastern Regional Director of NCCE, Mrs Margaret Mary Sackey noted that the Zonal segment of the competition was to encourage the competing schools to unearth talented public speakers, as well as “future think tanks” in the schools.

She advised the children to learn hard to justify the huge investments being made by their parents in their education, adding that they should endeavour to read their books during their spare time instead of playing about and attending video shows and funerals at night.

The Birim central NCCE Director, Mrs Margaret Konoma noted that Zonal Quiz competitions formed part of the NCCE's social responsibility which, among other things, sought to promote quality and efficient education.

Mrs Konoma stated that the programme was designed to assist the participants who are the country's future leaders, to identify problem situations and apply the right leadership techniques to resolve such problems.

The Kwaebibrem District Advent Reform School emerged winners in the competition with 51 marks, while the runner-up School, Akyemmansa Elim Academic, scored 49 marks.

The Birim Central A.E.A. Academy placed third with 45 marks, whiles West Akim Golden Child came fourth with 40 marks. The Birim South Awisa Presbyterian School took fifth position with 26 marks.

All the contesting basic schools received a certificate and a wall clock each as prizes.
