Twifo Praso (C/R), July 4, GNA — The Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira district assembly has held its first assembly meeting with the approval of a supplementary budget for the year 2011.
The budget estimated at GH¢1,983.365 will be used to pay old debts, complete on-going projects as well as start new ones.
Mr Joseph Foster Andoh, District Chief Executive for the area, said the assembly has made provision to support some traditional activities in the district.
He announced that area councils would be strengthened to push the frontiers of the decentralization process further and also to help develop the various communities.
Mr Andoh said the assembly has allocated part of the supplementary budget to assist 90 teacher trainees under the education support programme as well as provide dual desks to some schools in the district.
He mentioned some of the on-going projects to include the construction of a slaughter house at Praso, a clinic at Nyenasi, and a three unit classroom block each at Taikorkrom and Wawase.
The new projects included the erection of sheds for durbar grounds at Agona, Mampong, Hemang and Jukwa, the construction of new three unit classroom blocks at Som Nyamekodur, a data base system for revenue collection and supply the of 2,000 school desks to many communities.
Others are the purchase of two Nissan Pickups, a cesspit emptier, 1,000 bags of cement to be distributed among communities, refurbishing of the district assembly hall and the provision of water to certain areas at Praso.
Mr Andoh said voting them to the assembly meant the electorates have confidence in them and expected them to help provide their basic amenities.
He urged the members of the assembly to pay regular visits to their communities and to update the electorates on the current issues in the district.
Mr Andoh said the government has procured motor bikes for them to facilitate the decentralization programme.
He also tasked the assembly members to ensure that food vendors operated under good hygienic conditions.
Mr Andoh appealed to herbalists in the district to register with the district assembly to enable them to be featured on the district assembly's website.
He suggested that the assembly makes funds available to nurse oil palm and cocoa seedlings for supply to farmers.
He appealed to them to take an interest in the cocoa spraying exercise in their respective electoral areas.
Mr Andoh also commended management of the district health insurance scheme for being adjudged the best scheme in the Central Region at their maiden awards ceremony.
