Black Stars captain, , Saturday joined hundreds of people, mainly from the football fratenity, who turned up at the forecourt of the Ohene Djan Stadium to pay their last respect to former Black Queens defender, Patricia Ofori.
Mensah, who sat through the burial service, described Pat Ofori's death as a tragedy, not only to the family, but also to the football family. He donated an undisclosed amount of money to the bereaved family.
It was quite an emotional scene as almost the entire team of the 2007 Black Queens she played with during the Women's World Cup in China, led by captain Adjoa Bayor, filed past the body and said prayers as they usually did before the start and end of each game.
Tributes from various bodies, including the Alabama A & M University, where she was pursuing her Masters degree in Business Administation until her untimely death, described her as a student of great character who was determined to succeed, and throughout her stay in the institute from 2004 proved a worthy student, both in academic affairs and athletics and had impressive credentials to show for her efforts.
After the service, the body was interred at the Osu Cemetery. Pat Ofori was an active member of the Black Queens from 2002 to 2008, during which she played in three African Women's Championships (AWC) and two WWCs. She only opted out of the team when she gained admission to pursue her Masters programme and met her untimely death through a motor accident in Alabama on April 20 on her way to school.
