THE CAPE Coast Circuit Court on Wednesday remanded into police custody the Adisadel Senior High School (Adisco) mathematics teacher, Richard Atta Payin, who is alleged to have sodomized 6 male students of the school.
The court presided over by His Lordship Samuel Asare Nyarko has asked Atta Payin to reappear on June 10 this year while the Central Regional Police Command continues to investigate the matter.
He however charged Atta Payin with defilement since the said students are not yet 16 years.
The lawyer of the mathematics teacher, Arthur Dadzie, pleaded with the court to offer a bail term but the court did not.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Francis Okom told the court that Mr. Atta Payin was arrested upon a complaint made by the school's headmaster, Hebert Kwesi Graham, on Monday morning that his mathematics teacher was alleged to have defiled about six students.
According to Inspector Okom, his outfit quickly deployed a team of policemen to search for Mr. Atta Payin. Mr Atta Payin was arrested around 6:30 pm in front of the Central Regional Ministries office when he was about to drive off his vehicle.
Mr. Atta Payin was however kept in the regional police custody for interrogation, after which he was brought to the court where he was charged and remanded.
The Central Regional Education Director and the said students are yet to write their statements which will help the police gather the needed facts.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that the arrest of Mr. Atta Payin has brought worry to most students in the school since he is considered as one of the best mathematics teachers in the school.
