The Managing Director of the Eximguaranty Bank in Accra, Mrs. Felicity Acquah has reiterated the call on students to exhibit high moral values and discipline in order to acquire holistic education to make meaningful impact in society. “God created the essence of discipline the way he created the earth.” She noted.
Mrs. Acquah was speaking at the 65th anniversary and the speech and prize giving day of Holy Child Senior High School (Angel's Hill) in Cape Coast on the theme Discipline; An Indispensable Ingredient For Contemporary Holistic Education. She charged the administration to uphold the discipline of Holy Child School by teaching discipline as a subject.
Reminiscing her days at the Angel's Hill, she recalled the core values of Holy Child education; as education of the body, the mind and the soul. She also encouraged the students to guard jealously their enviable reputation with their actions and not words.
Mrs. Acquah congratulated the new graduates and charged them to become role models of the society.
The headmistress of the school Rev. Sis. Josephine Anto noted that religious retreats have been used to stem the tide of indiscipline which was gradually creeping into the school. This she said has built in the girls a sense of responsibility, spirituality and religious tolerance.
Commending the efforts of the students, Rev. Sis. Anto said “My girls have not only made me proud in the classroom, but on the field as well. The Holy Child athletics team is a force to reckon with in the Central Region and beyond.” She recounted the numerous individual awards won by the school's athletic team with reference to Millicent Abakah and Joyce Arthur on how they combined both academics and sports in their final year.
Rev. Sis. Anto noted the school's migration to the prepaid meter system as a major challenge the school is facing. According to her, GH¢14945 has been spent on electricity between January to May which is having a serious financial toll on the school. She thus called for immediate intervention from stakeholders. She also appealed for the early completion of a science laboratory project, accommodation for teaching staff, dining hall which are all under construction, and a 72- seater bus to facilitate movement of students.
The head prefect of the school, Emmanuela Akwaboah in her address outlined the achievements and challenges during her tenure of office. With respect to their social responsibilities, she said students made a donation to the cardiothoracic center in Accra and the Ivorian refugee camp in the western region.
In sports, Miss Akwaboah noted that the schools athletic team placed 3rd and 2nd in the inter colleges schools sports festival and the super zonals respectively.
