The Mathematics teacher of the Adisadel College (ADISCO) in Cape Coast who is alleged to have sodomised some students of the school has been arrested by the police.
The Central Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr S. Andoh-Kwofie, said the suspect, Mr Richard Atta Panyin, was arrested following a report made by the Headmaster of ADISCO, Mr H.K.K. Graham, on Monday.
Mr Atta Panyin, who is in the custody of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Police Service, was picked up on Monday night and is expected to be arraigned today.
Mr Andoh-Kwofie said both Mr Graham and the suspect had already given statements to the police, while other alleged victims would be invited in the course of investigations to also give their statements.
The Central Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) is also expected to be invited to give a statement.
Mr Andoh-Kwofie gave the assurance that the police would conduct thorough investigations into the allegation to unravel the truth or otherwise of the matter.
Mr Atta Panyin, who was alleged to have had carnal knowledge of a student of ADISCO, was dismissed by the school’s authorities after a committee set up by the school had found him culpable a couple of weeks ago.
The situation created panic among parents and guardians who thronged the school at the weekend to check on their children and wards.
