Bontanga (N/R), March 28, GNA - The Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) is rehabilitating the 570-hectare Bontanga irrigation project at the cost of 2.5 million dollars.
MiDA is also rehabilitating the 40-hectare Gonliga irrigation dam. The two projects are expected to be completed within 10 months.
Mr Bukari Mohammed the Zonal Manager of MiDA, said this when he and other officials of MiDA inspected progress of work on some of the projects being carried out by MiDA at Bontanga over the weekend.
He said over 500 farmers were expected to benefit directly from the project which, when completed, was expected to cover about 1,000 hectares for the cultivation of rice and vegetables.
Mr Mohamed said under the MiDA's management style, the two irrigation facilities would be changed to make them more business oriented so that the dams could be more effectively managed.
He said part of the envisaged change in the management style would involve making management pay the land owners.
