The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ga South Assembly (GSA), Sheriff Nii Otto Dodoo, has donated eight 4X4 Dongfeng Nissan pick-ups, procured at a cost of GH¢278,520 to boost the work and services of the assembly.
According to the MCE, at the commissioning at Weija, the vehicles would be mainly used in revenue mobilisation, monitoring, inspection, supervision of projects, and checking encroachment and unauthorised physical development.
He said that the assembly inherited five vehicles from the Ga West District after its demarcation, which have broken down, and with those in operation, the assembly has to spend huge sums of money in maintenance and repairs.
Mr. Dodoo stated that although the assembly was young, it was doing all it could to adequately resource the sub-structures such as the zonal councils, in order to tackle some of the socio-economic problems of the people.
The MCE expressed concern on the hike of chieftaincy disputes, landguards, illegal sand winning, and intrusions, which disturb the peace and security of the assembly.
Mr. S. K Addo, acting Municipal Coordinating Director, added that the general public was expecting a lot from them, and that it was up the assembly to implement policies that would help improve their lives.
The beneficiaries of the 4×4 Dongfeng Nissan pick-ups are the Accounts Department, Revenue, Budget, Development, Water and Sanitation, and Town and Country Planning Department.
The rest are the Weija Zonal Council, Domeabra Zonal Council, and the Public Health and Waste Management Department.
He however, urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the vehicles.
