As part of the preparation towards the 2012 general elections, former John Agyekum Kufuor, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate for the 2012 elections and Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, national chairman of the party, are currently on a four-day visit to Germany as guests of the ruling Christian Democratic Union (DCU) and Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
The Christian Democratic Union is the ruling centre-right party in Germany while the Konrad Adenauer Foundation is a German think-tank and consulting agency that seeks to promote good governance and sound economic management both home and abroad.
“Jointly, the ruling CDU of Germany and the Foundation have a long-standing partnership with the New Patriotic Party in our shared belief in democratic governance and the social market economy,” a statement issued in Accra and signed by Charles Owiredu, Director of International Affairs of the party said.
The visit by the three prominent figures would feature, among other activities, a meeting with Dr Horst Koehler, the former President of German Federal Republic and discussions at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation.
The delegation would also participate in a conference on Social Market Economy in the Context of Emerging African Economies, at which former President Kufour would give the keynote address.
It is expected that the interactions would provide the opportunity for the high-powered NPP delegation and their German partners to share governance experiences and forge closer cooperation and mutual support.
