Kotobabi Police Station Cries For Facelift

The Kotobabi Police Station, one of the district police stations established under the colonial administration to maintain law and order in the area is in dire need of facelift.

The station, which handles a high number of civil and criminal cases ranging from stealing, assault, beatings, mob attacks, to fraud usually, among landlords, has not seen any facelift for the past 25 years.

The station, which serves Accra Newtown, Pig Farm, Maamobi, Kokomlele, Alajo, Kpehe, Roman Ridge, as well as Abelemkpe and Dzorwulu, lacks operational facilities that motivate security men to give of their best.

Poor office equipment and ventilation among other things are the first to greet any visitor to the station.

Coupled with a limited number of staff, the Chronicle learnt that the rowdy nature of areas, such as Maamobi, and Accra Newtown where stabbing cases are so high that one of the officers (name withheld) described as 'Isakaba' that need urgent police mobilization and intervention, are most often handicapped.

Any attempt to increase the staff strength of the station is also greatly impeded by serious lack of accommodation, the Chronicle gathered.

Another problem that the Chronicle spotted was the fenceless nature of the station that offers easy infiltration of thieves to the barracks who subsequently attempt to remove some parts of both impounded and accident vehicles parked at the station.

The condition in the cell was an eye-sore as acute water shortage has further aggravated the situation.

The renovation of the toilet has come to a halt due lack of funds and inmates have to fetch water from elsewhere to flush the water closet which is very difficult task.

Though, the station has benefited from the new Peugeot cars distributed amongst the various police barracks in the country, much more is desired for the station that maintains law and order in and around Dzorwulu and Abelemkpe where most of the ministers of state are residing.
