Why NPP must vote for John Boadu

Why NPP must vote for John Boadu
27.02.2010 LISTEN

One of the pitfalls of elections as a means of democratically selecting leaders for any group of people is the danger of ADVERSE SELECTION. It allows wrong, undeserving people to find themselves in leadership positions which the voters later live to regret completely.

It will grief my heart so much if delegates to our party's congress over the weekend should allow adverse selection to have its way, make a mistake, reject John Boadu and vote for any other person as the National Organizer of the party. That is why I am writing to sound that caution to all of us, who so much desire victory for our party in 2012.

Why vote for John Boadu? Here are some reasons provided by some influential chairmen of the NPP, as reported in some newspapers.

“We are now in opposition and it will be difficult to mobilize enough resources. We, therefore, need a National Organizer who will be honest and ensure transparency in the distribution and application of logistics for the party's work. We have known John over the years, especially when he worked as Accountant for the party. My brothers and sisters, he is an honest person; somebody we can trust with the resources of the party. Let's vote for him and ensure that dishonest people do not come near our limited resources.”

“John Boadu is the man who has always been with us up here in the north [and everywhere]. He can be described as a product of the party, because he has learnt a lot over the years, and that is why he is able to defend the party on radio; that is why he is able to train party activists about party organization, election regulations, election monitoring and others. He is active, smart, and knows how to deal with our opponents in a clever way that does not portray a negative image for the party. Which of the other aspirants have the ability to match Opanyin Yaw Boateng Gyan, the NDC Organizer? The man is effective, but not 'patapaa'. Only John Boadu can face him squarely. Let's not make any mistake.”

“In modern politics, organization is about strategic thinking. It is about effective training of party activists to monitor polls, collate results, and provide materials to challenge dubious results. 'Patapaa' does not win elections. 'Machoism' does not win elections. I know somebody who claims he is 'macho' but could not protect his own ballot and therefore claimed he was stolen. If you cannot put in place effective measures to protect just one box, how can you do same for over 21,000 ballot boxes across the country? That is why we need a strategic thinker like John Boadu to be our Organizer,”

An NPP youth activist also wrote in an article: John Boadu is contesting the National Organizer position with Alhaji Muctar Bamba and Isaac Edumadze. The actual contest is between Boadu who is not on anybody's slate and Bamba who is on the two slates. Which of the two can you trust in terms of integrity, competence, tract record, and the capacity to face Opanyin Yaw Boateng Gyan, his counterpart from the NDC? Remember the Organizer is in charge of party resources/logistics and their distribution. Do you know the value of TRANSPARENCY? Remember he is also in charge of developing training programmes for the party and also partnering the Communication Director to develop appropriate campaign messages. Let's not make a mistake that will haunt us later.”

And now hear the man who deservingly deserves our vote to become our Organizer: “I am not seeking the position for self-glorification. I have acquired a lot of experience and knowledge through our party. I am a product of the party, and I therefore have to give back what I have acquired to the party at this crucial period. Choose competence over mediocrity; choose strategic thinking and productive, refined radicalism over unproductive, crude radicalism; choose honest leadership over dishonest leadership; choose a straight forward, principled person who is not on any ticket to a double-standard person who belongs to two tickets; choose a qualified, trained trainer over an untrained trainer. This is what will ensure effective organization that will lead us to victory in the 2012 elections.”

My vote is for John Boadu, and I expect you to give yours to him, because he is a dynamic organizer, a strategic thinker who can think on his feet; he is a powerful communicator who can face the NDC, defend the party and tell of our success story in government; his radicalism as an old Vandal is refined; he will create a positive image for the party; he can draw more people close to him and the party; he will assemble the right people to move with and work with; he will ensure transparency in the distribution of our logistics; he understands the work of organization; he has the intellectual capacity; he is grass root inclined; he is objective, fair, neutral and independent – that is why he is on nobody's ticket; he will ensure level playing field for all the presidential hopefuls; he won't take bribe from would-be parliamentary aspirants to push parochial agenda, and create needless problems for the party; and above all, he is the man who can organize the party well to ensure victory in the 2012 elections.
