COMMONWEALTH SECRETARIAT INVITES YOUTH DRIVE INTERNATIONAL (YDI).

By youth drive

The Commonwealth Secretariat has invited a delegation from the Youth Drive International to attend this year's Young Commonwealth Climate Change Summit (YCCCS 09) to be held at the Commonwealth Secretariat, Marlborough House, Pall Mall, London SW1Y 5HX from 28th – 30th October, 2009 on the theme “Tackling Climate Change: A Commonwealth Agenda for Young People”.

The YCCCS 2009 is being organised by a team of dedicated youth leaders with support from the

Commonwealth Youth Programme and the Economic Affairs Division of the Commonwealth

Secretariat, the Commonwealth Youth Exchange Council, British Foreign and Commonwealth Office,

Commonwealth Foundation, Global Action Plan, the Commonwealth Policy Studies Unit, the

Institute of Commonwealth Studies, the Clinton Global Initiative University, the United Nations

Youth Programme, and The Roselle Antoine Foundation.

The Summit will be held as the run-up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting

(CHOGM) in Trinidad & Tobago in November 2009, and the United Nations Climate Change

Conference in Copenhagen (COP15) in December 2009. The young leaders participating will have a

unique opportunity to influence the Climate agenda at a pivotal point in intergovernmental

negotiations. It is our intention that our declarations, the product of discussions over the course of

the summit, will be shared at these high level events and with individual governments by delegates, as well as disseminated far and wide through Commonwealth and other networks.

The YDI delegation is made of Mr. Patrick K. Arthur, the Chief Executive Officer and Mr. Kwame Amo Yeboah, a member of the Board of Directors and a senior executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly. The delegation will also take part in a 30 minutes Youth Panel on the morning of the 28th October 2009 to share their perspectives on the above theme and also discuss their proposal which will be implemented upon their return to Ghana.

The Youth Drive International delegation is being supported by the National Youth Council of Ghana.
