THE Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has advised that the guidelines for the observance of the ban on drumming and noise-making should be strictly adhered to in order to ensure peace, harmony and national security during the period. In a press release issued by the Regional Co-ordinating Council in Accra and signed by its Chief Director, F.T. Nartey, the REGSEC urged Christians to confine their worship to the church premises while noise levels should be minimised to the minimum.

It therefore cautioned against the positioning of loud speakers outside church premises and other public places in communities within the region.

The statement appealed to the religious community and the traditional authorities to respect one another and restrain their followers from making derogatory and inflammatory remarks about the beliefs and practices of others.

The release warned people against taking the law into their own hands by entering churches and other premises to enforce the ban on noisemaking since such an action is punishable by court fines and/or imprisonment.

The release appealed to the National Commission for Civic Education to intensify education on religious tolerance, social harmony and plurality of cultures for peaceful co-existence in the country.

Apart from the traditional ban on drumming and noise-making, the release reminded citizens that there is a permissible level of noise-making and called on all people with problems and misunderstandings relating to the ban to report them to the nearest police station for prompt action.
