The Minority Leader, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has criticised the government's handling of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) strike, questioning its commitment to workers' welfare while pursuing reparation.
He accused the government of failing to prioritise the concerns of ordinary workers, despite its advocacy for reparatory justice.
“You are talking about reparation, but in your own country, you cannot pay your domestic workers,” he said on the floor of Parliament on Friday, November 6, 2026.
Mr Afenyo-Markin argued that the ongoing strike had brought the justice delivery system to a standstill, and called on the government to demonstrate greater urgency in resolving the dispute.
“Government must show more seriousness. How can an entire justice delivery system be shut down because the government does not consider it a priority? This government seems not to care about the welfare of the ordinary worker,” he said.
He consequently called on the Attorney-General to appear before Parliament urgently to brief the House on the impasse.
“The Attorney-General must be programmed urgently to come and address this House,” he added.
JUSAG declared an indefinite strike on Monday, November 2, 2026, over the government's failure to approve a proposed review of salaries and related allowances for Judicial Service staff.
The association has maintained that it will not call off the strike until the government approves the Judicial Council's advice on its conditions of service.
