MobileMoney Fintech LTD (MMFL) Chief Executive Officer, Shaibu Haruna has been named CEO of the Year – Fintech at the Ghana CEO Vision & Awards 2026, marking his second consecutive win in the category.

The recognition follows another year of growth and innovation at the company, with notable contributions to financial inclusion, business expansion and collaboration across Ghana's digital financial services industry.

The latest award comes after Mr Haruna was also named Fintech CEO of the Year at the MTN Group Global Leadership Gathering earlier this year, further strengthening his recognition within the wider MTN fintech network.

His achievements have been closely associated with his leadership of MMFL, particularly its transition into a dedicated fintech business following the structural separation of Scancom PLC's mobile money operations.

The restructuring, which took effect on March 31, 2026, saw Mr Haruna lead the company's strategic repositioning to deepen its focus on digital financial services and meet localisation requirements under the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019 (Act 987).

The company has also recorded strong financial performance, with MoMo revenue increasing by 35.7 per cent in 2025 and its active user base reaching 19.3 million.

Revenue growth continued in the first half of 2026, driven by mobile money services, digital payments and lending.

Driving Ghana's digital finance revolution

Beyond the company's commercial performance, Mr Haruna has played an active role in discussions on the future of digital financial services in Ghana and across Africa.

At the 3i Africa Summit, he called for stronger consumer protection in digital lending, improved interoperability and shared financial infrastructure to support sustainable growth in the fintech industry.

He has also advocated closer partnerships between banks and fintech companies to develop services involving digital assets, virtual assets and tokenisation, while leveraging Ghana's existing mobile money infrastructure.

Through the Fintech Partner Exchange, he has supported industry-wide efforts to combat digital fraud and strengthen cooperation among stakeholders.

His participation in the MTN Group Fintech Summit's “Africa's Velocity Index” CEO panel also highlighted the importance of financial health, resilience and market maturity in shaping the continent's financial services sector.

Making financial inclusion a priority
Mr Haruna's leadership approach places emphasis on using digital financial services to expand economic opportunities for individuals and businesses.

At the Ghana CEO Vision & Awards High-Level Dialogue, he advocated the use of digital financial records to improve access to credit, savings and investment opportunities.

He has also engaged journalists through the Fintech Media Development Series, which focuses on fintech strategy, financial inclusion, cybersecurity and consumer protection.

The initiative is intended to improve media understanding of the sector and encourage accurate reporting to strengthen public confidence in digital financial services.

Supporting the next generation of fintech innovators

Developing future leaders and innovators in the fintech industry is another key part of Mr Haruna's vision.

Through the MoMo Fintech Lab, organised by MMFL in partnership with the Bank of Ghana and other industry players, students, developers, entrepreneurs, startups and innovators are given support to turn their ideas into practical financial solutions.

The nationwide initiative reflects his commitment to nurturing emerging talent and promoting innovation and collaboration within Ghana's fintech ecosystem.

Haruna acknowledges team and partners
Reacting to the award, Mr Haruna thanked the organisers and dedicated the recognition to the MMFL team and its partners across the fintech industry.

“I am honored to receive this award for the second consecutive year. I share this recognition with the MMFL team and our partners across the fintech ecosystem.

We remain committed to building trusted financial services, strengthening collaboration and nurturing the talent that will shape the future of fintech in Ghana,” he said.

A delegation from MobileMoney Fintech LTD received the award on his behalf at the ceremony.

The back-to-back recognition highlights Mr Haruna's contribution to Ghana's digital finance industry, particularly his efforts to expand financial inclusion, strengthen trust in digital financial services and promote innovation across the fintech ecosystem.
