The Member of Parliament for Bantama, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye has challenged the newly appointed national leadership of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) to reposition the organisation to meet the demands of modern politics while preserving its founding ideals.

The former Minister made the call when he received a delegation led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Youth Organiser, Abanga Fuseni, who paid him a courtesy call to introduce his two deputies and the newly appointed National TESCON leadership.

Hon. Asenso-Boakye, who disclosed that he was the founding President of TESCON some 26 years ago, said the organisation remained close to his heart, having witnessed its transformation from an initiative established in just three universities into a nationwide student political organisation with a presence in more than 250 tertiary institutions.

He described TESCON as an important platform for nurturing future political and national leaders, pointing to several former members who now occupy influential positions within the NPP, Parliament, government and other sectors.

Among them are NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, Second Vice Chairman Henry Nana Boakye, several Members of Parliament, former ministers and chief executives.

Reflecting on the changing political landscape, the Bantama MP urged the new leadership to embrace digital technology, encourage innovation and strengthen the intellectual foundation of the organisation to remain relevant to the aspirations of today's young people.

He also called for TESCON to deepen its contribution to political education, policy research, intellectual engagement and leadership development.

A major highlight of the engagement was the presentation of a newly developed digital application by National TESCON Coordinator Ebenezer Kojo Amoah.

The application is designed to establish a comprehensive database of TESCON members and alumni across the country.

Hon. Asenso-Boakye commended the coordinator for the initiative, describing it as an innovative intervention that could help strengthen the organisation's structures and institutional memory.

He further assured the delegation of his continued mentorship, guidance and support, emphasising the importance of preparing young people to assume responsible leadership positions in the future.

The delegation included Deputy National Youth Organisers Priscilla Ekua Okorno and Dr. Ayaaba Ibrahim Bawumia, alongside Deputy National TESCON Coordinators Kwabena Owusu Junior and Ganio Bansi.

In a strong message to the incoming leadership, the founding President stressed that TESCON must evolve with the times without losing sight of the principles upon which it was established.

"We founded TESCON for the challenges of our generation. The responsibility now rests on today's leadership to reinvent it for the challenges of their generation, while preserving the ideals upon which it was established," he stated.

He congratulated the new leadership and wished them success in their respective assignments.
