Experts from central banks and regional institutions within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) are meeting in Lomé, Togo, to advance efforts to harmonise monetary and financial statistics across the sub-region.
The meeting, which runs from November 2 to 7, 2026, is being organised by the West African Monetary Agency (WAMA) in collaboration with the ECOWAS Commission.
The Committee of Experts on the Harmonisation of Monetary and Financial Statistics is expected to finalise a harmonised metadata framework and assess progress in implementing the regional action plan adopted in January 2025.
Participants are also sharing experiences and examining ways to improve the collection and compilation of monetary and financial data among member states.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring that countries produce reliable, consistent and comparable economic and financial statistics to support regional policy monitoring and decision-making.
The harmonisation of the data is also expected to strengthen the monitoring of West Africa's economic and financial performance and support efforts towards deeper economic and monetary integration.
