The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is holding a nationwide demonstration today, Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to demand the immediate removal of Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa over controversies surrounding a recent evacuation exercise and the issuance of diplomatic and service passports.
The demonstration, dubbed “Y3gye y3 sika”, is scheduled to begin at 6:00 a.m. at Villaggio, near the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange and opposite Accra Mall.
Protesters are expected to march from Villaggio to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before proceeding to Jubilee House, the seat of government.
The party announced the protest at a press conference on Thursday, October 29, with its National Youth Organiser, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu, urging party members and other Ghanaians to participate in the demonstration.
Mr Yakubu said the protest was intended to demand accountability in the management of public funds and official government documents.
“The public money belongs to the people, so do the official documents of the Republic. The ministers hold them in trust, and when the trust is abused, it is the people who must rise and demand accountability,” he stated.
The NPP has accused Mr Ablakwa of wrongdoing in relation to the two controversies, although the allegations have not been established and remain subject to investigation.
The opposition party is demanding the minister's immediate dismissal and investigations by the Attorney-General and the Office of the Special Prosecutor. It is also calling for the prosecution of the minister and any other officials found culpable.
Ahead of the demonstration, Mr Yakubu called on youth organisers, constituency and polling station executives, women's groups and other party supporters to mobilise for the protest.
He, however, urged participants to maintain peace and discipline throughout the exercise.
“Our strength is in our numbers and our discipline, never in disorder,” he said.
The demonstration represents an escalation of the NPP's criticism of the Foreign Affairs Minister, as the party insists that the government must provide answers to the concerns raised.
